Adding detectable and antimicrobial properties to food processing equipment

Antimicrobial brand SteriTouch has launched a new detectable additive range for the food processing sector. The SCOPIC brand of masterbatches and compounds provide metal and X-Ray detectable qualities to conveyor belt material and other food handling consumables, by incorporation at manufacturing stage into polymers, rubber and composite materials, as well as coatings.
Metal and X-Ray detectable additives are used widely throughout the food and pharmaceutical industries, to impart properties into plastic and rubber products which enable them to be identified, should any fragment reach the production line. Typically, these are items such as pens, clipboards and spatulas, and detectability can be seen throughout the polymer down to a few millimetres.
Detectable compounds can also include an antimicrobial from SteriTouch®, which provides lifelong antibacterial properties to any material. SteriTouch® additives will reduce the risk of cross contamination from bacteria such as E.Coli, Listeria and Salmonella, and are ideal for use in hygienic sectors such as food processing.
Facilities at the site in South Wales include tensile, impact and environmental testing, along with metal detection equipment. Research and development work is carried out in-house, including moulding and extrusion. With this in-house technical expertise, many complex material issues can be overcome, such as UV stability and brittleness.
