Superficial Radiation Therapy Systems Market 2017 – 2027

Superficial radiation therapy is a low dose radiotherapy that penetrates below the surface of the skin. Superficial radiation therapies are highly painless, effective and cosmetically alternative to surgery for selected cancers. Superficial radiation therapy system radiates a radiation that disrupts the cell division by targeting the abnormal cells. The tumor cells divide more rapidly than the normal cells, thus making the tumor cells an easy target for the radiation. Most radiotherapies are deep penetrating and are able to reach tissues which are deep inside the body and destroy cancer cells. However, superficial radiation therapy system emits low energy radiotherapy which enters only the outer layers of tissue and skin. Superficial radiation therapy systems are used for the treatment of early stage skin cancer and benign (non-cancerous) conditions. Some of the benign conditions which are being treated by superficial radiation therapy systems are dupuytren’s contracture, heterotopic ossification, ledderhose disease, peyronie’s disease, psoriasis, viral warts, keloids, etc. Skin cancers treated with superficial radiation therapy systems are Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC), Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC), and Lentigo Maligna. Basal cell carcinoma and Squamous cell carcinoma are collectively known as Non-melanoma Skin Cancers (NMSC).

Superficial radiation therapy systems are basically used to treat non-melanoma forms of skin cancer (BCC & SCC). These form of skin cancers are developed after years of sun exposure and from tanning bad use. The treatment stops cancer cell from spreading. Superficial radiation therapy is also called as superficial x-ray therapy as it uses the same energy range as diagnostic x-ray machines.
