SUNNYVALE (USA)/London, March 2018 – At Embedded World, Real-Time Innovations (RTI) announced a live demo of Connext DDS Secure to highlight the increasing need for security throughout an IIoT system. The demo features Connext DDS in a Healthcare application, specifically a secured integrated clinical environment (ICE). This security architecture can easily extend to other markets, such as autonomous vehicles, smart grid/energy, and aerospace and defense.

The Connext DDS Secure demo showcases an ICE Supervisor connected to medical devices, such as a patient health monitor and an infusion pump. The supervisor runs on a laptop connected to a set of Raspberry PIs (4) running the simulated medical devices (infusion pump, ECG, CO2, Temperature, etc.). All of the units shown communicate securely over RTI Connext DDS. Using the DDS Security standard, protection will be configured for the data that’s passed along the Connext Databus.

Security best practices are implemented using an Infineon TPM for hardware key storage, and the Mocana FIPS 140-2 compliant crypto module gives access to the key storage as well as the encryption algorithms used for data protection. Given recent cybersecurity attacks on hospitals, such as WannaCry, it is critical to apply these best practices to integrated clinical environments that could serve as an attack vector to financial and healthcare data.

In addition to showcasing the security features of Connext DDS, this demonstration highlights interoperability between device vendors that may choose different security solutions in conjunction with DDS Security.
