The online-gallery artists.de periodically curates artists from the wide range of art on the portal. Today it is Nestor Rivera Jr. of New York, USA who was chosen by curator Dr. Stefanie Lucci.

When Nestor Rivera Jr. photographs beautiful bodies, he transforms his models into surreal figures, which float agravicly in other spheres. Immediately you may ask yourself the question if in this case form follows function or vice versa. In an artistic peak performance he lets limbs twist around each other, takes bodies apart to reconfigure them in a breathtaking way. He builds abstract new shapes which are disassociated from their origin and history and after the transformation unfold new bizarre, sometimes disturbing attributes.

The approach instantly reminds of Salvador Dali and his famous skull formed of beautiful, naked women. Unlike Dali, Rivera Jr consequently treats the human body as design objects, which he often decapitates. With the fine finishing of the facing and shrouded in noble light his photographies remind one of advertisments for precious jewellery. As soon as the the sight moves back from form to the body one reaches the point, where Riveras art becomes disturbing. If one considers the omnipresent availability of perfect bodies, who would not instantly be reminded of genetic technology and humans as a commodity in the economic system. The beautiful appearance of Nestor Rivera´s art is deceiving - underneath the surface abysmal aspects are concealed.
