Abhishek Verma owned Olialia India bags Maldives International Airport construction award

A global conglomerate owned by billionaire Abhishek Verma, 'Olialia' (pronounced as Oooh La La) has signed an MoU for building an international airport with the Government of Maldives.

Olialia has been sanctioned a huge lagoon by the Government of the Maldives for this purpose. Located far from the capital city Male, the designated water body was in much need of an international airport.

The second lagoon identified by Olialia is for development of a seven star resort close to the airport development.

The planned airport is going to be named Olialia International Airport for a minimum period of 50 years. Olialia was invited by the island nation’s government for the construction of the airport by issuing a formal invitation letter / Expression of Interest.

This letter addressed to Mrs Anca Verma the wife of Abhishek Verma was signed by the Maldives’ Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer.

A special purpose company (Olialia International Airport Maldives Private Limited) is now been registered in Maldives which has already received sanction to bring in FDI (foreign direct investment) into the country for this airport project.

The airport will be built upon the ‘build, own and transfer’ model, which means that Olialia build and run the airport for 50 years, after which the operations and management would be handed over to the government of Maldives.

As decreed by the model, the government is not liable for any finance, which means that Olialia would be the sole investor in the project.

An Olialia spokesperson has revealed that the company will hand over the airport to the Maldives government after developing and running it for a period of 50 years. The airport’s net worth is expected to rise to a whopping $6 billion by the said time. The airport project is also expected to generate approximately 5,000 employment opportunities for the people of Maldives.

Olialia has forged business relationships with the leading global construction companies for the Maldives International Airport project. Apart from building a world-class airport, we are also aiming at bringing more tourists to Maldives through Olialia Airlines.

Olialia Airlines is being speculated to take off by July 2019. The airlines would offer direct flights to Maldives from various global locations like Lithuania, London and Germany. The proposed airport in the Maldives would also be developed into a regional hub for Maintenance and Repair Organization (MRO) for passenger jets in the Indian Ocean, catering to the airlines of the Indian subcontinent.

Studies conducted by leading a global consulting firm have predicted that Olialia International Airport project would bring in hundreds of thousands tourists every year to the Maldives, besides contributing approximately $500 million in Maldives’ foreign investment in the next 2 years.
