Notice is hereby given that the Nippon Foundation will be giving a press conference, which you are cordially invited to, regarding the “GEBCO SEABED 2030 PROJECT” per the details stated below.

Purpose
At this press conference The Nippon Foundation (“NF”) will be giving an update on the GEBCO SEABED 2030 PROJECT, including its recent developments, accomplishments, and its roadmap after the announcement of its launch at the United Nations Ocean Conference in June 2017. This will be the first press conference on this topic to be held in Japan.


About the Project
The General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO) and the Nippon Foundation, through their sponsorship of “Seabed 2030” aims to expand understanding of the ocean floor by mapping and compiling a high-resolution open-source Digital Bathymetric Model of the world’s seabed at an unheard of 100 meter resolution or better. Some of the benefits arising from this project would include or enable the following:

Enhanced prediction of ocean currents, and its effect on the climate and climate change;
- Enabling the safer navigation of submarines and ships;
- Provide us with a better picture of our natural resources;
- Promotes public awareness of the oceans, the seabed, its currents, its effect on the climate, etc. especially through use of the information in education; etc.
