Anti-Tobacco: Fraudulent In Any Form Or Disguise

May 30, 2006 - Since 1988, May 31st has been a very special day: tobacco control experts from all over the world celebrate themselves and loudly proclaim the newest horrible numbers resulting from some statistical manoeuvres.

Real facts don’t matter if there is an agenda to push forward. While on the one hand pretending to “save” millions of smokers with an aggressive campaign against them, Tobacco Control disregards all real options at hand to make life more comfortable and safe for smokers and non-smokers alike.

Despite the fact that there are solutions at hand to make each single cigarette more safe by the very own scientific standards they are proud to proclaim, Tobacco Control advocates insist on a “Quit or Die!” approach that leaves no room for any smoker who chooses not to abandon his habit. By the very own scientific standards of Tobacco Control, millions of lives could have been saved in the last three decades, and could still be saved in the years to come: if only the reduction of risk – for smokers and non-smokers alike – were more important than simply punishing smokers and forcing them to adopt a lifestyle they do not want to share.

Despite the fact that the risk of Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) is not proven, Tobacco Control advocates insist on “smoking bans” which simply prohibit smoking and do not protect anyone from air pollutants. There are, in total, 117 studies to date that have looked for an association between ETS and lung cancer or cardiovascular disease. None of them reaches the minimum risk elevation that is needed, and all of them fall short of the target from three to twenty times. Tobacco Control advocates like to ignore the fact that actual on-site measurements could track all possibly dangerous substances and could really improve our air quality – without necessarily forcing smokers out on the streets.
