The first eatable film awards ever and a free selection of captivating cinema.
7 eatable Atomiums, 67 challenging international films and countless trays of popcorn. The Brussels International Independent Film Festival 2018 is set to be an entertaining celebration of intriguing cinema. With free entrance all around, this ode to cinema will serve film lovers with an appetite for finger licking good flicks, the cinematic main course that’ll blow their minds. The Atomium Film Awards: the world’s first eatable film award
How do you spice up a film festival with sweet love for the power of cinema? That’s easy: by creating the world’s first eatable film awards. Sunday 18/02/2018, film makers in 7 different categories have a chance at winning a mouthwatering creation from Wim Vyverman (Chocolat-Atelier Vyverman).
This Chocolate Hero – says Gault Millau 2017-2018 – has designed a piece of art nobody can resist. A delicious acknowledgement of film talent. Culinary mastery in the shape of the Atomium, the national landmark, made from 100% pure Belgian chocolate.
Because those who create cinema that flavors our world, deserve an award they can sink their teeth in.
BIFF 2018: film selection
We received over 2.000 submissions from all around the globe. 67 were selected. They are presented to the audience on a tasty bed of tenaciousness – completely free of charge.
Bad Poetry Tokyo, the new Anshul Chauhen, enjoys its world premiere at the festival. And after our Valentine screening of Public Intimacy, this day of lovers will never be the same again. This Brazilian film offers a raw vision of sexuality, thrusting all conventions to pieces in a heartbeat. A must see.
Flatland shows us the greatness of Iranian experimental cinema, while Denzel Washington and Al Pacino perfect their comedy skills in the short Soulfinger vs. Goldfinger.
Those and 63 other challenging and uncompromising films leave the audience grasping for breath in what promises to be one of the most daring film selections of the year.
Love for cinema, that’s no gimmick
Free entrance to all films. Free popcorn for all. Chocolate film awards. You’d think it’s all just for laughs.
But why should a film festival focusing on intriguing and challenging cinema settle for in-crowd parties and see and be seen ceremonies? Time to put things into perspective. And most of all: to tighten the bond between cinema lover and film maker.
Great films must be savored. For film awards and the cinematic experience, it’s no different.
The Brussels Independent Film Festival 2018: background information
The Brussels Independent Film Festival is inspired by the Festival Internationale du Film Indépendant de Bruxelles, founded in 1974. This legendary film festival showed us the power of provocative experimental and Super 8 films. And brought film legends such as Pedro Almodóvar, François Ozon and Nanna Moretti to Brussels. Unfortunately, that story ended in 2012.
But now, the BIFF is ready to fill those big shoes – albeit with certain modesty. Because there’s room for challenging films is the current cinematic landscape. We’ll be leaving the red carpets, fancy-schmancy parties and tiresome speeches to other events. Our job is to bring powerful cinema to passionate film lovers. Free of charge. And with loads of popcorn.
Heads up: reservations may be required for some films. In return, you’ll be enjoying the most exciting film selection in years, a cinematographic kick-in-the-nuts at every screening and… you’ll never guess… free popcorn!
