For instance, machined and punched edges display almost no micro-cracking as compared with traditional thermoset composites. Polyurethane composites also display processing advantages such as lesser curing time requirements as compared to polyester materials. Also, the spraying processes for polyurethane composites is considerably less labor demanding as compared to polyester spray up. The latter needs rolling out the glass to eliminate air and ensure complete wet out. The relative advantages of polyurethane composites have been translating into their preferential usage in the automotive industry to a considerable extent. Polyurethane composites are free of styrene and do not produce large amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), thereby proving to eco-friendly in terms of their applications.
