itelligence: MEKRA Lang makes a successful start with SAP

Hidden Champion from Franconia Uses itelligence Expertise for its IT System

Bielefeld (Germany), July 16, 2009 – MEKRA Lang GmbH of Ergersheim (Germany), the leading manufacturer of mirror and camera systems for the commercial vehicles market, is now using SAP as its company software to ensure further solid growth. The itelligence consultants announced the successful launch of the SAP system at MEKRA Lang for seven companies, including the Fürth plant, after around 15 months of project time.

Three plants have been connected to the SAP system to date. In the final completion stage, this means that 591 of the total number of around 1800 employees are using the SAP system in all areas of the company. Implementation of the project also includes the SAP c-Projects project management module for product development and application of the SAP Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, including the documentation management system. The new system, for which the itelligence consultants were able to draw on their many years of experience in the automotive industry, incorporates KANBAN for production supplies and scanner systems for warehousing processes and enables connection with the Wassermann WAY RTS planning system for manufacturing orders.

In this complex SAP project, an important aspect for the automotive industry was uniformly mapping just in time (JIT) and just in sequence (JIS) production while providing feedback to the assembly line. The SAP system now also includes introduction of an integrated quality management tool, as well as order processing in line with the specific requirements of the automotive industry, including the replacement parts business.

MEKRA Lang now manages purchasing using cross-company processing and maintenance of machinery and tools via SAP, as well as electronic GTS customs management via the ATLAS interface. MEKRA Lang is using the entire range of SAP solutions to achieve its growth targets, with all the company’s processes mapped and – even more importantly – integrated in the system.
