Hysterectomy is the process where complete or partial uterus is removed from the women’s body by the gynecologist. In complete uterus removal, fundus, cervix and body of the uterus are removed whereas in partial only body of the uterus is excised. Hysterectomy is performed when a women is suffering from fibroids, uterine prolapse, endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding and cancer of uterus, ovaries and cervix. It has been observed in U.S. that 1 out of 3 women are undergoing hysterectomy annually. Hysterectomy has various issues such as hormonal imbalance, inability to conceive and disappearance of menstruation. To overcome these problems various alternative methods are currently being adopted by the gynecologist. These alternatives include myomectomy, uterine artery embolization (UAE), hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation and hormonal treatments.

Myomectomy is the process of removal of fibroids without altering or removing any part of the uterus. Uterine artery embolization is the process of injecting small particles such as PVA (poly vinyl alcohol) in the uterus which would stop the supply of blood to the fibroids and thus stops its growth. In hysteroscopy, a small thin instrument is inserted in the uterus through vagina to carve out the fibroids. With the help medical management various drugs are prescribed and device is implanted to treat different uterine problems. These drugs include Mortin and oral contraceptives whereas devices include intrauterine devices. In endometrial ablation, with the use of laser light infected cells of uterus are killed and hence relieves from infection and pain while in hormonal treatment, various hormones are injected in the body to inhibit the actions of the infected cell.
