Press release from: SMi Group

NATO’s Federated Mission Networking Initiative:

SMi Group has recently announced that Colonel Joachim Neumueller, Head of Federated Mission Networking, J6, at NATO SHAPE, will be speaking at the Network Centric Warfare 2018 conference in Rome next February.

With the rise of a multipolar world, balancing near-peer adversaries and asymmetrical combat threats, the need to build joint operational capability is now essential. NATO's Federated Mission Networking (FMN) represents a significant contribution towards building tactical interoperability and operational effectiveness through common equipment, doctrine and architectures. As a key component of the Connected Forces Initiative (CFI), which helps NATO allies and partner forces to maintain quality of communications, training exercises and operations, NATO’s FMN is driving standardisation and connectivity within allied forces.

Thus, Colonel Neumueller’s presentation will explore how NATO is transforming interoperability through the development of standardised network enabled capability architecture. This presentation will highlight:

• NATO Forces 2020: building an interoperable, adaptable and sustainable deployable force structure within NATO coalition nations
o Role of CFI in enhancing interconnectedness between allied forces
o Improving secure network access within combined force operations to optimise coalition power projection
• Overcoming data-sharing challenges - ensuring information is uniformly shared within military data exchanger
• Establishing a common framework for standard compliant systems to guarantee future NEC architecture interoperability

Other NATO presentations showcased at Network Centric Warfare 2018 include
• Optimising Joint Operational Capabilities Through Enhanced Data Dissemination and Tactical Coordination
Brigadier General (Ret'd) Giuseppe Morabito, Director, NATO Defence College Foundation
• Modelling and Simulation as Key Component of Future C4ISTAR Systems Enabling a Wide Scale of Operational Decision Support
Captain Vincenzo Milano, Director M&S COE
• Decision Making in Network Enabled Environments, Issues and Opportunities
Dr John Mahaffey, Senior Scientist, NATO C3 Agency
• Maximising Coalition Operational Success Through Effective Communication Interoperability Between NATO Partners
Dr Gregory Edwards, Head of Infrastructure Services & Transition Services, NATO
