Abstract:
In 2015, the value of women's apparel production in the U.S. amounted to $3.6B, languishing at the previous year level.Overall, the U.S. women's apparel output pursued a prominent decline from 2007 to 2015. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -2.1%. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012, when the output figure increased by +9% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the total value of women's apparel shipments in the United States attained its maximum level of $4.1B in 2008. Afterwards, the growth in terms of the women's apparel production failed to regain its strength through to 2015.

Women's and girls' knit shirts and blouses (including polo shirts, cowl neck shirts, tank tops, sweatshirts, and t-shirts), made from purchased fabrics (excluding screen printing) accounted for the highest share (23% in 2015) of U.S. women's apparel manufacturing, leaving a considerable room for women's and girls' dresses, made from purchased fabrics (22%). The other related products with less notable individual shares together comprised approx. 55% of the total output.
