Women in Tech Summit Connects 200 Technologists in Raleigh

November 9, 2017 (RALEIGH) – On November 11, the multi-city Women in Tech Summit (WITS) will close out its 2017 rotation with its second annual Raleigh-Durham event. Held at The Frontier at Research Triangle Park, the sold out conference will inspire, educate and connect 200 women in technology.

Launched in 2012 in Philadelphia, WITS provides attendees with opportunities tailored to women on both the business and technical side of the industry. Now offering annual events in Raleigh, Washington D.C. and Denver, each summit includes deep-dive technology workshops, career planning information, and networking opportunities with like-minded women.

J. Kelly Hoey, renowned investor and the author of “Build Your Dream Network,” has served as keynote speaker for all 2017 events. Hoey has been lauded as “1 of 5 Women Changing the World of VC/Entrepreneurship” by Forbes, “One of the Most Well-Connected People in New York City’s Startup Scene” by Inc. and “1 of the 100 Most Influential Tech Women On Twitter” by Business Insider.

The day’s full schedule will include sessions such as:
Mind the Gap - The Funding Gap That Is: A panel discussion - with a VC perspective – from successfully funded females in the Raleigh area
Building Successful Teams Through Internal Mentoring and Training: A case study of how one company is tackling the talent and diversity shortage through on-site training and mentorship
and The Path to Smart Cities and the IoT Roadmap: Breaking through the myths and exploring the path to creating smart(er) cities

With Comcast and Chariot Solutions serving as the national series sponsors, additional support was provided by premier city sponsors including MetLife, The Frontier at Research Triangle Park, Virginia Tech Masters of Information Technology program, Red Ventures and Willowtree. In-kind food and beverage support for the event’s Networking Hour will be provided by Kind Snacks, Whole Foods and Triangle Wine Company respectively.

Proceeds from each summit support TechGirlz, a nonprofit organization empowering middle school girls with the tools to pursue diverse careers in technology. TechGirlz accomplishes its mission through the creation of free, fun, and interactive “TechShopz” and their open-source curriculum allows schools, companies, and community groups across the world to bring free STEM education to young women. As part of the Raleigh Summit, the Triangle TechGirlz community will host a sold-out “Intro to Javascript” workshop to engage younger participants.
