NOTES FOR EDITORS ON THE NEW earthTV LOCATIONS

Lugano is in the south of Switzerland within the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino. It lies on Lake Lugano, has about 57,000 inhabitants and is famous as both a major financial centre as well as for its Mediterranean-like flair and warm summers that attract an ever-growing number of visitors every year. The earthTV camera is on the shoreline of Lake Lugano and will offer great views over the lake and the fountain “Lugano-Paradiso”, the adjacent mountains such as Monte Bré and the waterfront.

Abu Dhabi / Yas Island - Abu Dhabi is the capital of United Arab Emirates, located on the north east coast of the Arabian Peninsula at the Persian Gulf. Two earthTV cameras are set up at Yas Island with a great view over a gigantic construction site where a huge building project for a new Formula One circuit will be documented by earthTV 24/7. Yas Island’s 2,500 hectares will host the Yas Marina Circuit, where the 2009 Formula One season will reach its climax in November, and other attractions such as a Ferrari Theme Park and Marinas.

Plettenberg Bay / South Africa. - Plettenberg Bay in Western Cape Province lies on South Africa’s Garden Route, about 600 km from Cape Town. It was originally named “Bahia Formosa” (meaning “beautiful bay”) by early Portuguese explorers and is nowadays a famous tourist spot. The earthTV camera is located at Plettenberg’s Central Beach to capture images of the busy beach life, the lagoon, the delta of Phesang River and Robberg Nature Reserve.
Pretoria / South Africa. - Pretoria, a city of 1 million souls, is with Cape Town and Bloemfontein one of the South Africa’s three capital cities. earthTV’s new camera is situated on top of the UNISA building. It offers a brilliant view over Pretoria’s Central Business District and the Loftus Versfeld Stadium a 1st and 2nd round venue for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

Arcachon / France. - Arcachon in Southwestern France is one of the country’s most famous oyster locations with a myriad oyster farms dotting its inland sea. A wonderful nature reserve Arcachon is also the site of the famous “Grande Dune du Pyla”, Europe’s largest sand dune which is nearly 3 km long reaching 107 m in height and moving inland at a rate of 5 m every year.
