HOUSTON -- As part of Mayor White's Flexible Workplace initiative, Houston-based Xvand Technology will be participating in Flex in the City, a government sponsored program that encourages more flexible workplace options during the weeks of May 11 – 22, 2009.

The program asks that organizations eliminate a peak commute time for employees that occur during 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This initiative also attempts to eliminate traffic congestion and improve mobility. The program originally occurred in September, but was changed after the effects of Hurricane Ike.

As a registered participant, Xvand Technology will allow employees to arrive either before 7 a.m. or after 9 a.m., while allowing others to telework using its IsUtility® system, an information technology provider that offers remote PC access.

“The reason I created a system like IsUtility®, was to make it easy for users to access company data. Our system is great for people on-the-go or for people who travel extensively,” Xvand founder and President Victor Grinshtein says.

The IsUtility® system enables users to access their data from anywhere in the world, because data is stored at a disaster-proof datacenter. This enables users to connect to the system with any internet location.

Because of the sophistication of the system, Xvand Technology employees that travel overseas can maintain a communication thread with headquarters by utilizing the IsUtility® system.

Grinshtein says that clients and employees enjoy the flexibility of a “work from home” environment and that it brings about a better company morale.

“We realize that some of our employees may have to take very long commutes and they would also like the luxury to work from home every so often. We are fortunate enough to have a solution like IsUtility® that allows our employees and clients the ability to work from home while being supervised by upper level management. We are encouraging our clients as well to take part in this citywide initiative,” Grinshtein says.

Grinshtein also often rides his bicycle to and from work to help with traffic congestion.

“I think that bicycles should be a major means of transportation in all the major cities just like in Amsterdam. But we in the USA can do it even better using certain portions of the existing freeway system. This will give Americans better health, save environment, and divert funds that we spend with our enemies on fossil fuels to other worthwhile projects at home,” Grinshtein says.

Grinshtein also participated in the Houston Bike to Work Day May 15 at Memorial Park.

Grinshtein hopes that by improving work options, other businesses will follow suit and create a more flexible work environment.

“Giving employees the option to make their own schedules not only improves traffic congestion, it also improves overall employee satisfaction,” Grinshtein says.
