Abstract
Global raw silk market revenue amounted to 7,160 million USD in 2015, lowering by -10.2% against the previous year level. Overall, global raw silk market continues to indicate a noticeable growth: the market value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the market revenue increased by +49% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global raw silk market attained its maximum revenue of 8,450 million USD in 2013. From 2014 to the end of the period under review, the total raw silk market revenue failed to regain its former peak level.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global raw silk production was primarily driven by disposable income growth, population growth, and growth of clothes consumption. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the raw silk output in the immediate term.

The country with the largest volume of the raw silk output in absolute volumes was China (126 thousand tonnes), accounting for 75% of global production. Moreover, raw silk output in China exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest producer, India (24 thousand tonnes), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Viet Nam with a share of 7%. From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of China's raw silk producton stood at +0.1%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: India (+3.4% per year) and Viet Nam (-12.2% per year).
