Abstract
Global tea market revenue amounted to 20,417 million USD in 2015, moving up by +2.5% against the previous year level. Overall, global tea market continues to undergo a perceptible growth: the market value increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the market revenue increased by +21% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global tea market revenue peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global tea production was primarily driven by population growth and popularisation of healthy beverages. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the tea output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and a moderate improvement of the yield figures.

The countries with the highest levels of production in 2015 were China (2,258 thousand tonnes), India (1,256 thousand tonnes), Kenya (491 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 69% of total output. From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates in almond production among the main producing countries was attained by China (+8.4% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The world tea harvested area amounted to 3,935 thousand ha in 2015, which was 3.6% more than the previous year figure. The harvested area indicated a noticeable increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +4.0% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some mild fluctuations over the recent years. Over the period under review, the total tea harvested area peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its expansion in the immediate term, following rising demand for tea globally.

The global average tea yield amounted to 15 thousand hg/ha in 2015, rising by 1.4% from the previous year figure. The yield figures recorded an upward trend over the period under review, with a compound annual growth rate standing at +0.8% from 2007 to 2015. These yield figures maintained, all in all, a stable trend pattern throughout the analyzed period. The highest tea yields were recorded in 2015. Albeit an intensification of modern agricultural technics use, the future yield figures subject to a substantional risk of adverse weather conditions.
