Abstract
Global cocoa (bean) market revenue amounted to 12,731 million USD in 2015, rising by +1.1% against the previous year level. Overall, global cocoa (bean) market continues to undergo a noticeable growth: the market value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012, when the market revenue increased by +73% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global cocoa (bean) market attained its maximum revenue of 13,803 million USD in 2013. From 2014 to the end of the period under review, the total cocoa (bean) market revenue failed to regain its former peak level.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global cocoa (bean) production was primarily driven by population growth. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the cocoa (bean) output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and a noticeable contraction of the yield figures.

The countries with the highest levels of production in 2015 were Côte D'Ivoire (1,405 thousand tonnes), Ghana (837 thousand tonnes), Indonesia (718 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 68% of total output. From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates in almond production among the main producing countries was attained by Ghana (+3.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the output figures.

The world cocoa (bean) harvested area amounted to 10,463 thousand ha in 2015, which was almost equal to the previous year figure. The harvested area indicated a noticeable increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +2.4% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some mild fluctuations over the recent years. Over the period under review, the total cocoa (bean) harvested area peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its expansion in the immediate term, following rising demand for cocoa (bean) globally.

The global average cocoa (bean) yield amounted to 4 thousand hg/ha in 2015, falling by -2.5% from the previous year figure. The yield figures recorded an downward trend over the period under review, with a compound annual growth rate standing at -1.0% from 2007 to 2015. These yield figures maintained, all in all, a stable trend pattern throughout the analyzed period. The highest cocoa (bean) yields were recorded in 2007, when it peaked at 5 thousand hg/ha. Afterwards, it decreased slightly and then fluctuated around these levels throughout the analyzed period.
