Abstract
Global coconut market revenue amounted to 32,075 million USD in 2015, coming down by -5.0% against the previous year level. Overall, global coconut market continues to undergo a noticeable growth: the market value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012, when the market revenue increased by +61% from the previous year level. In that year, the global coconut market revenue attained its maximum of 37,810 million USD. From 2013 to the end of the period under review, the total coconut market revenue failed to regain its former peak level.

Over the analyzed period, global coconut production was buoyed by disposable income growth, production of medical care and personal care goods, and popularity of healthy eating. These key factors are to remain relevant with regard to coconut output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a measured expansion of the harvested area and a slight contraction of the yield figures.

The countries with the highest levels of production in 2015 were Indonesia (17,567 thousand tonnes), the Philippines (14,138 thousand tonnes), India (11,708 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 72% of total output. From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates in almond production among the main producing countries was attained by India (+0.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the output figures.

The world coconut harvested area amounted to 11,920 thousand ha in 2015, which was almost equal to the previous year figure. The harvested area indicated a slight increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +0.5% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern was relatively stable throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the total coconut harvested area peaked in 2012, falling back in the following year. From 2013 to 2015, the total coconut harvested area fluctuated at lower levels.

The global average coconut yield amounted to 50 thousand hg/ha in 2015, fluctuating near the previous year level. The yield figures recorded an downward trend over the period under review, with a compound annual growth rate standing at -0.8% from 2007 to 2015. These yield figures maintained, all in all, a stable trend pattern throughout the analyzed period. The highest coconut yields were recorded in 2007, when it peaked at 54 thousand hg/ha. Afterwards, it decreased slightly and then fluctuated around these levels throughout the analyzed period.
