Overall, global cassava market continues to indicate a pronounced growth: the market value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the market revenue increased by +52% from the previous year level. In that year, the global cassava market revenue attained its maximum of 85,159 million USD. From 2012 to the end of the period under review, the total cassava market revenue failed to regain its former peak level.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global cassava production was primarily driven by growth of African and Latin population. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the cassava output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and a slight contraction of the yield figures.

The countries with the highest levels of production in 2015 were Nigeria (54,944 thousand tonnes), Thailand (30,206 thousand tonnes), Indonesia (23,109 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 40% of total output. From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates in almond production among the main producing countries was attained by Nigeria (+3.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The world cassava harvested area amounted to 24,152 thousand ha in 2015, which was 1.2% more than the previous year figure. The harvested area indicated a noticeable increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +3.0% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some mild fluctuations over the recent years. Over the period under review, the total cassava harvested area peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its expansion in the immediate term, following rising demand for cassava globally.

The global average cassava yield amounted to 113 thousand hg/ha in 2015, fluctuating near the previous year level. The yield figures recorded an downward trend over the period under review, with a compound annual growth rate standing at -0.7% from 2007 to 2015. These yield figures maintained, all in all, a stable trend pattern throughout the analyzed period. The highest cassava yields were recorded in 2011, when it peaked at 123 thousand hg/ha. Afterwards, it decreased slightly and then fluctuated around these levels throughout the analyzed period.
