Senator Aaron Bean

Tallahassee, FL, Sept. 25, 2017 - Senator Aaron Bean (R-Fernandina Beach) has filed Senate Bill 308, Federal Immigration Enforcement, prohibiting sanctuary policies in the State of Florida. SB 308, also known as the “Rule of Law Adherence Act,” requires local governmental entities and law enforcement agencies to comply with and support the enforcement of federal immigration law. It also provides penalties for government agencies and elected officials that fail to comply with federal immigration authorities.

“The United States is a nation of laws, and you cannot refuse to enforce certain laws simply because you disagree with them,” stated Senator Bean. “To do so sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the very foundation of our legal system. This legislation requires local governments to actually enforce federal immigration laws and put the safety of their citizens above their own political views.”

To help local governments with the costs of enforcement, this bill authorizes a board of county commissioners to adopt an ordinance to recover costs for complying with an immigration detainer. This legislation also allows local governmental entities and law enforcement agencies to petition the Federal Government for reimbursement of certain costs relating to immigration enforcement.
