Conveyor chain drives are used in a wide range of industrial applications to move, carry, slide, push, and pull a variety of materials. These chain drives are used to move objects directly by attaching frames, pockets, buckets or meshes to the chains and also be indirectly used for turning rollers, which, in turn, move the conveyor chain drives. Conveyor chain drives are used to transport materials as rollers can support weight and also can be used to support the weight of the chain when the transmitting power is over long distances.

The chains used in conveyor belts are called as block chains, which consist of solid or laminated blocks connected by side plates and pins. The blocks engage with the teeth on the sprocket wheels and depending upon the material being moved, hooks, buckets and other devices are connected to the blocks.
