Abstract:
In 2015, the value of motor and generator production in the U.S. amounted to $9.4B, coming down by -11.7% against the previous year level. Overall, the U.S. motor and generator output pursued a perceptible decline from 2007 to 2015. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -5.1%. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +11% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the total value of motor and generator shipments in the United States attained its maximum level of $13.5B in 2008. Afterwards, the growth in terms of the motor and generator production failed to regain its strength through to 2015.

Integral horsepower motors and generators other than for land transportation equipment (rated at 746 watts or more) (excluding hermetics) accounted for the highest share (22% in 2015) of U.S. motor and generator manufacturing, leaving a considerable room for fractional horsepower motors (rated at less than 746 watts) (excluding hermetics) (18%). The other related products with less notable individual shares together comprised approx. 60% of the total output.
