A high level delegation led by Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister Tourism and Culture, Jammu and Kashmir and the tourism Secretary Mrs. Tanveer Jehan, Mr. Farooq A Shah (Director Tourism, Kashmir), Mr Rafiq Qadri (Managing Director, Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation) and Mr. S. M Sahani (Director Tourism, Jammu) and senior officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department is taking part in the worlds largest Tourism exhibition ITB in Germany.

The state is world known for its lakes & green valleys of Kashmir; the icy deserts, high mountain passes, & rugged terrain of Ladakh; and the foothills & plains of Jammu.

Royal Springs Golf Course in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, is a magnificent 18-hole course and has been rated as the best in India. Two more Golf Courses at Gulmarg & Pahalgam make Kashmir an ideal & challenging destination for Golfers.

Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora, Tourism and Culture Minister, Jammu and Kashmir has informed that the state will take up several projects to make Jammu and Kashmir and Ecotourism hub.

“Our focus will be to stop selfish human interference into our state's serene environs and for this many Ecotourism initiatives to protect fragile areas will be taken up.”

Jammu and Kashmir Tourism is putting major efforts in promoting Adventure Tourism destinations by opening more destinations for Adventure Tourism, especially to identify and open new mountain peaks for mountaineers. Currently, about 113 mountain peaks in Leh are being considered for opening to tourists. With the opening of new peaks in Leh, the state expects more adventure tourists to travel to Jammu and Kashmir.

Gulmarg Gondola Lift provides access to Mt Affarwat at 4000 meters, making it the highest lift-served ski point in the world. Another Chair Lift is being installed at Gulmarg The Government of Jammu & Kashmir is committed to put in resources to develop the ski infrastructure and amenities in Gulmarg to bring it up to international standards.

The rivers of Kashmir & Ladakh offer varied rafting opportunities – tourists can opt for fun rafting on some mild grades whereas professionals have a variety of options, particularly in Ladakh, which, with its extreme landscape, rich culture and monasteries, is a unique destination.

A new a ropeway project on Public-Private-Participation (PPP) model from Kud to Patnitop, state's famous tourist destination is under development.

The Srinagar International Airport has gone global with the first International Flight of Air India Express on Dubai- Srinagar-Dubai sector this year. The weekly AI flight is expected to provide international connectivity to Srinagar and is expected to boost the tourism sector while more international sectors are added. The New Integrated Terminal Building has a capacity to handle 950 passengers, including 450 international guests, at a time.

The Department of Tourism, Government of Jammu and Kashmir will celebrate the Tulip Festival on March 25, 2009 in Srinagar that has the largest Tulip Garden in India. As part of the festival, the department will organise various cultural programmes and present diverse cuisines representing different regions of the state. The state is expecting large number of international and domestic tourists for the festival.

The state has a lot of potential for Adventure Tourism activities and is popular for skiing and mountaineering. Jammu and Kashmir Tourism will focus on promoting Ladakh and Adventure Tourism at ITB Berlin which will be held from March 11-15, 2009. Jammu and Kashmir Tourism is looking forward to increased tourist arrivals from various parts of the World. Politically stability and the infrastructural development measures are expected to boost Tourism Industry of Jammu & Kashmir.
