Abstract:
In 2015, the value of petrochemical production in the U.S. amounted to $50.5B, going down by -29.4% against the previous year level. Overall, the U.S. petrochemical output pursued a pronounced decline from 2007 to 2015. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -4.1%. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +59% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the total value of petrochemical shipments in the United States attained its maximum level of $83.0B in 2013. Afterwards, the growth in terms of the petrochemical production failed to regain its strength through to 2015.

Liquefied refinery gases (aliphatics), made in petrochemical plants accounted for the highest share (61% in 2015) of U.S. petrochemical manufacturing, leaving a considerable room for aromatics (benzene, toluene, xylene, etc.), made in petrochemical plants (38%). The other related products together comprised only a negligible shares in the total output.
