direct/ Bytemobile Doubles Browser Phone Speeds for Willcom Full Web Access for Mass Market Handsets
Bytemobile Speeds Web Surfing, Search and Email for Japan SubscribersMOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 12/06/2005 -- Bytemobile, the global leader in content-dynamic networking solutions that unify, simplify, and accelerate mobile data networks, today announced that mobile data innovator Willcom is now providing its Japanese subscribers with a turbo-charged web browsing experience that gives full optimized access to the Internet with a feature phone. Bytemobile´s solution for Willcom, called the Optimization Services Node (OSN) Monaco Edition, delivers a performance speed up of up to 2X that of Willcom´s underlying service with no software on the handset and is available to all of Willcom´s browser phone users.
Willcom has priced the optimized service at 315 yen (about $3 U.S.) per month more than their unoptimized service, demonstrating their confidence in the superior user experience. "We offer our handset subscribers an unlimited web experience," said Yoshioki Chika, Willcom´s Chief Technical Officer. "That means full access to broad and rich content -- all of which requires dynamic optimization."
With the advent of higher speed networks, new feature phones and advanced browsers, the demand for richer content is increasing rapidly. As a result, mobile operators are looking to dynamic optimization techniques, such as the OSN Monaco Edition, to help them maximize network capacity and user experience. Depending on the network and the configuration, Bytemobile´s optimization solutions can deliver improved network efficiency by reducing data transferred by up to 5X and increasing data delivery speeds by up to 10x.
"To deliver the ideal mobile web experience to handsets, operators need to consider many issues including rendering, access speed and cost per megabyte," said Steve Livingston, Bytemobile executive vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. "The Willcom implementation is broader than many in that it offers full Internet access to any site, not just a branded-portal site for subscribers. As we look at the convergence of great browsers, richer phone offerings, and robust optimization technology, we see a dramatically improved user experience, and the chance for operators to create new revenue streams in handset-based services."
The OSN Monaco Edition solution incorporates Bytemobile´s market-leading Macara(TM) Dynamic Optimization technology and new handset-focused enhancements that process not only HTML-based data, but also the xHTML, cHTML, and WML-based content typically created for handset services. Willcom deployed the solution in a server-only architecture, which required no software changes to the handsets. A client-server solution is also available and offers broader protocol support and even higher performance.
