Microbiological testing laboratory in Singapore

Microbiological testing laboratory in Singapore

Specialty chemicals company LANXESS's microbiology laboratory in Singapore has completed a record number of tests done for Asia Pacific customers in 2008 compared to 2007. LANXESS has also successfully started operations of its microbiology laboratory in Wuxi, China. The laboratories provide comprehensive technical services for industrial biocides which are marketed under the Preventol brand.

Operating under the Material Protection Products (MPP) business unit, the laboratory in Singapore has added several new test methods and customized existing ones to meet the special needs of customers across the Asia Pacific region. These tests range from conventional analytical methods to various microbiological tests to determine the efficacy of LANXESS biocides in customers’ products.

Opened since March 2008, the laboratory in Wuxi has similarly increased the number of tests performed for Chinese manufacturers of products such as paints, polymer emulsions, glues and adhesives, mineral slurries and construction chemicals.

At the microbiology laboratories in Singapore and China, tests are done to ensure that LANXESS material protection products used by customers offer the best safeguard against attacks by microbes such as bacteria, fungi, yeasts and algae. The laboratories also work closely with customers to identify and eliminate potential sources of contamination by microorganisms in their production process. Another important technical service offered by LANXESS is to ensure compliance with increasingly stricter regulatory requirements on the use of biocides.

LANXESS has chosen Singapore as the Asia Pacific regional technical centre for microbiology testing due to the country’s efficient logistics and pro-business environment. The Wuxi laboratory further strengthens LANXESS’s offering of value-added services to customers in China.

Dr. Michael Gerle, APAC Regional Manager for Industrial Preservation, MPP business unit, said, “The laboratories in Singapore and China are strongly appreciated by our customers in the Asia Pacific region. Firstly, offering our Preventol product line in tandem with our laboratory services gives customers great confidence of success in their application. Secondly, by being close to our customers, we are able to deliver fast, efficient and customized tests and recommendations. Thirdly, our premium products and comprehensive test methods enable us to meet the diverse technical standards, regulatory provisions, and customer requirements in the region.”

Gerle added, “We are in the material protection business for more than 100 years and it is exciting to see that in Asia Pacific more customers can benefit from our experience and expertise.”

The Material Protection Products business unit, one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of biocidal active ingredients and formulations for use in industrial preservation, disinfectants and wood preservatives, belongs to the Performance Chemicals segment, which achieved total sales of EUR 1,970 million in 2007.
