First Coastal Zone Wetland Mitigation Bank in the State of Texas

Baton Rouge, Louisiana, February 6, 2009 - East Bay Farms, LLC, a subsidiary of Ecosystem Renewal, LLC (ECO) has completed the Final Prospectus for establishing the Gulf Coastal Plains Wetland Mitigation Bank (GCPWMB) located adjacent to the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge in Chambers County, Texas.

This 1,998 acre site is strategically located in the coastal zone between Beaumont and Houston, Texas. The site will provide, non-tidal Fresh Marsh, Bottomland Hardwoods, Cypress/Tupelo, Tidal/Intermediate Marsh, Wet Coastal Prairie, Upland Pimple Mounds, and Stream Restoration credits. Final approval is expected in the very near future, establishing the first Coastal Zone Wetland Mitigation Bank in the State of Texas.

The GCPWMB project area is currently and has been historically, for over 75 years, an active agricultural farm. The site has been plowed, leveled, levied, and ditched during this time so that any historic resource functional quality that once existed is now absent. Restoration of the GCPWMB will offset impacts to tidal/intermediate wetlands, adjacent freshwater wetlands, and stream corridor areas within the Houston/Galveston area.

The rising demand for coastal residential development, mainly beachfront and bay-front canal subdivisions throughout the upper Texas coast, continues to be very high compared to that of the rest of the country. Through 2025 the Houston-Galveston metro area is expected to add 1.3 million jobs, 3 million people and 1 million households. In addition, a large amount of petro-chemical industry, shipping, and transportation infrastructure projects are planned for the area.
