SAGA D.C. GmbH today released the Roadmap of 2006 for the Virtual Data Federation Server SAGA.M31 – Galaxy –.

Version 1.4 – Releasedate 29th March 2006
- Complex Container Requests (Professional Edition only)
This feature implements the ability to implement multiple requests in a container where one request depends on the result of another request. This allows complex queries to work in a single container run. By defining the relation between result fields from one request as an required field for another request, the sequence of the requests is automatically defined.
- Deployment Tool (Professional Edition only)
To easily deploy any developed container from the Developer-Edition or a Test Server into the production system, the Deployment tool is implemented. During the Deployment Process, new connectors, requests and Containers are automatically defined. Existing Components are handled based upon the user decision like update or leave untouched.

Version 1.5 – Releasedate 26th April 2006
- JDBC Request Interface
This interface provides JDBC Connectivity to SAGA.M31 – Galaxy –. In a first step, simple SQL Statements allows the use of the Virtual Data Federation via JDBC Calls in any application. By using JDBC as an Interface, SAGA.M31 – Galaxy – is even easier to implement into existing applications.
- XML Transformation (Professional Edition only)
XML Transformation enables the implementation of XML Structures from other sources. Often the XML Request and Response Structure is already standardized and does not fit into the SAGA.M31 – Galaxy – XML Layout. XML Transformation provides a way to transform Requests and Responses into the required structure of SAGA.M31 – Galaxy –. This allows easier implementation of existing applications and Structures.
- XML / Web Service Connector
This Connector will use existing XML or Web Services to obtain Data and implement the results in the Virtual Data Federation Structure of SAGA.M31 – Galaxy –. Seamless integrating of external Services into the VDF Model is done by this Connector. The result can be mixed into a Container with data from all Data sources that SAGA.M31 – Galaxy – provides.

Version 1.6 – Releasedate 28th June 2006
- New Host Connector Logic
The new Host Connector Logic will provide better Transaction Workflow implementation. Like a route planner, the optimal steps to the targeted transaction will be searched. Also different tracks to the target screen can be maintained. Route optimization and Screen-combinations based upon logical relations can be defined by the new Transaction-Workflow Wizard.
- Cached Container (Professional Edition only)
Cached Containers provides more static information without external Requests. The Cache refresh cycle can be defined. This Feature will reduce the response time. Mostly Portal Implementation can benefit from this feature as most users are using partially static information. A Cached Container will also provide information when the backend system is not available.
- Paging Container (Professional Edition only)
Paging Container allows a Requestor to retrieve Information is “slices”. If a Request generates huge amount of data, this would delay the initial response to the requestor. Paging Container will cut the result into slices, which are defined, and immediately return these slices. Subsequent requests to this container will than page through this information.

Besides this defined Release dates there are further Features and Functions planned but not yet dated into the Release plan.
- Event driven processing (Profession Edition only)
Event driven processing is a recommended way to process data more asynchronously. Several Analyst firms are starting to put this on their watch list and present this as a possible optimization where lots of databases need to get updated. Single Customer View is one scenario in CRM solutions because large organizations have several customer databases that contain redundant data that must be updated.
The implementation in SAGA.M31 – Galaxy – will be done by using JMS (Java Message Service) and allow generating Events as to consume events. Using Event driven processing makes it easier to realize complex but reliable tasks.
- SNMP Interface (Profession Edition only)
To implement SAGA.M31 – Galaxy – into well known Management Servers, a SNMP Interface will be implemented. This interface will provide states and statistics to analyze the process. It is not yet planned to implement a configuration interface via SNMP.

- Transformation Plugin Interface
Several requests were placed to implement a Feature that enables to transform data before it is provided as a response to the requestor. To provide the highest Flexibility and offer a high Functionality, SAGA.M31 – Galaxy – will implement a Transformation Plugin Interface. The specification will be released later. Depending on the License type (Developer/Limited or Professional Edition) there will be different options within this Interface.

SAGA.M31 – Galaxy – is a Virtual Data Federation Server (sometimes also known as EII – Enterprise Information Integration Server) that provides data from different platforms like JDBC based Databases, LDAP based Directory Servers and 3270 Mainframe Transactions as a single (federated) view. By using an XML or Web Service Interface, SAGA.M31 – Galaxy – enables organizations to provide a Data Service Layer within their SOA concepts. An Eclipse™ Plugin makes it easy for Developers to implement this Information into existing or new applications within minutes.
