Stool samples are checked for the presence of reducing substances in stool and identification of pseudo membranes in the colon is done by direct visualization. However, most of the infectious diarrhea are self-limited in nature and require a primary care including oral rehydration, intravenous rehydration or antimicrobial therapy. The gastrointestinal infection testing is broadly categorized into three types including laboratory tests, imaging tests and biopsy. Also, gastrointestinal infection testing is done using conventional techniques, molecular techniques and biochemical techniques.

Growing adoption of technologically advanced molecular techniques and rising incidence of gastrointestinal infections are the primary factors driving the gastrointestinal infection testing market. Increased government funding in healthcare projects and growing trend of pharmaceutical companies to manufacture novel drugs and diagnostic techniques are some other factors fueling the market growth for gastrointestinal infection testing methods.
