Platform to allow managers to simulate and extrapolate data to understand, monitor and improve supply chain effectiveness

Mumbai, March, 2006 : Netscribes, India’s leading knowledge solutions firm announced the successful launch of Netmarkers (www.netmarkers.com), an online knowledge platform to conduct and deliver global benchmarking and best practices analysis.

With the launch of Netmarkers, Netscribes plugs the key loopholes in the delivery of existing benchmarking and best practices solutions in the market. Netmarkers ushers in a completely new era of online collaboration and learning for individuals and organizations across the globe that rely on benchmarking research to compare themselves with their industry peers, and continuously improve and innovate.

Says Ganapathi Ganesan, Head Supply Chain, Total (Middle East), which has participated in Netmarkers benchmarking process: “Benchmarking is a useful tool to know where we are and where/what should we aim in the future. In this effort, Netmarkers is a useful tool - simple to look at, speedy to navigate and clean to comprehend. Levels of usage can be steered judiciously to make differing levels of decisions by different persons in an organization.”

“The coverage of parameters is quite good. Breaking them down into levels facilitates a 2-tier response in terms of top management and middle/lower management,” said Sanjiv Walawalkar, Head Supply Chain, BP (Middle East).

Launching Netmarkers, Sourav Mukherjee, CEO, Netscribes, said: “Existing benchmarking products and solutions in the market are either completely offline-based, or to the best, quasi-online. Netmarkers, on the other hand, is a completely online, web-based platform. From data collection to the final delivery of the benchmark analysis, everything is done online. It also allows key managers to play around with numbers and simulate scenarios and take tactical decisions that impact business. In the current market dynamics, people need tools not reports.”

The benefits of the online platform are plenty. Firstly, it enables organizations to conduct dynamic scenario analysis and simulations on live benchmark data to test their hypothesis for improving operational efficiencies. This is the key USP of Netmarkers. The existing solutions (largely PDF reports), due to their static nature of analysis can only provide a picture of what “was”. With Netmarkers, for the first time, it is now possible for an organization to see what “is”, and what “can-be” at the click of a few buttons.

Secondly, the online platform can be accessed from any place, at any time and by any one who has an authorized access to the site. More importantly, access can be “role restricted” allowing different users to have different levels of information access. “The risk of a final report being copied and distributed through email to unauthorized persons is very high in the case of the existing benchmarking reports that are in PDF format, whereas, it is completed mitigated by the User Access Management feature provided by the online platform,” says Ganesh Ramamoorthy, Head of Netmarkers, at Netscribes.

Thirdly, it allows organizations to submit data and access benchmark data with ease and convenience. Currently, benchmarking service providers collect data from organizations within a specific time period of about 4 to 6 weeks, and present the final analysis of the data as a PDF file, in another 4 weeks. The participating organizations are therefore under pressure to co-ordinate the data collection task and submit the relevant data to the service provider within the given time frame.

Organizations that overshoot the deadline to submit their data are, therefore, under the risk of being left out of the final analysis, as the scope for inclusion of their data in the final analysis becomes bleak once the report has been prepared and a PDF file has been created.

The dynamic, online nature of Netmarkers will now allow organizations to fully enjoy the benefits of benchmarking even if they overshoot their deadline for data submission. The final analysis, which is generated dynamically, updates the benchmark data in near real-time, as and when organizations submit their data.

Moreover, this feature also provides organizations the flexibility of accessing and comparing their performance with industry benchmarks on a continuous basis. “Organizations can now for the first time conduct benchmarking exercise, monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, or annually, depending completely on their convenience to share data.” The platform can, therefore, also be exploited for periodic benchmarking exercises within the organization to monitor the progress of implementation and actual performance of various continual improvement initiatives.

Besides, Netmarkers provides other key features that make it a true online collaboration platform. “The goal of any industry-wide benchmarking exercise is to be able to share and learn from the experiences of one another. Towards, achieving this goal, Netmarkers provides discussion forums, blogs, and other knowledge platforms for organizations to share their best practices, and learn from others’ experiences – from within the organization and the industry community at large,” adds Mukherjee.

Benchmarking is one of the critical tools used by organizations across the globe to improve performance. Until now, this invaluable tool has been mostly inaccessible to organizations in the Asia region due to a variety of reasons – ranging from relevance to cost issues – leading to a wide gap in the industry practices. Netmarkers aim is to bridge this gap between the Asian organizations and organizations in the more developed North American and European regions by providing a more relevant and affordable solution to all organizations, irrespective of region.
