Day-ahead trading volumes rise at trac-x.de

The German company trac-x Transport Capacity Exchange GmbH has reported an increase in day-ahead trading volumes of about 13,130,000 kWh/h for November. 238 out of 900 day-ahead auctions offered on the platform were successfully sold in November. Compared to the previous month the number of day-ahead capacities purchased by auction had increased more than sevenfold, the company said. At the cross-border point Bunde/Oude Statenzijl entry-capacities sized 10,000 as well as 100,000 kWh/h were favoured by bidders. At the entry-point Eynatten/Raeren capacity packages sized 30,000 and 100,000 kWh/h were preferred. Moreover, the average daily price for auctioned day-ahead capacities at the network point Bunde/Oude Statenzijl amounted to 0.8 eurocent per kWh/h and for day-ahead capacities at Eynatten/Raeren it amounted to 0.4 eurocent per kWh/h for November. Overall, last month’s trading results represented a very positive development of the day-ahead trading on trac-x.de, the German company said. Since its start in May 2008, the day-ahead section had reached a trading volume of 14,913,000 kWh/h. The general development of the long-term section of trac-x.de has remained positive as well. Currently, there are more than 50 long-term entries for transmission capacities at the network points Amerdingen, Lampertheim, Steinitz and Steinbrink listed on the platform.

trac-x Transport Capacity Exchange GmbH was established in order to create a transparent and non-discriminatory trading platform for secondary trading of transmission capacities. It has operated a trading platform for gas transmission capacities in Europe since March 2005. Currently, 330 traders from 17 countries are registered on the trac-x.de. They can trade secondary capacity rights across Europe in the networks of the following transmission system operators: Dong Energy Pipelines GmbH, E.ON Gastransport GmbH, EWE NETZ GmbH, RWE Transportnetz Gas GmbH, Gasunie Deutschland Transport Services GmbH, Ontras GmbH.

In addition to long-term trading, it has been possible to trade firm day-ahead capacity rights at the cross-border point Bunde/Oude Statenzijl (between Germany and the Netherlands) since May 2008. Since October 2008, the cross-border point Eynatten/Raeren (between Germany and Belgium) as well as further interconnection points at Bunder Tief, Reckrod and Lampertheim can be traded on the European platform. Since the launch of day-ahead trading on trac-x.de the number of day-ahead participants has increased to well over 40.
