PixelPlanet presents the PdfCrypter

Bremen, March 13, 2006 – It is difficult to imagine life today without PDF documents; they are used increasingly often to exchange confidential information. However, if such documents are sent via insecure channels, e.g. e-mail, then confidentiality may be seriously compromised. With the PdfCrypter, PixelPlanet has developed a solution to this problem.

This new tool works either as an independent application or as a plugin for Outlook. When sending PDFs by e-mail, the security settings of outgoing files can be automatically set; the sender determines who may read, print, edit and copy the documents. The original file remains unchanged on the author’s computer and, from there, can be simply and conveniently edited.

The PdfCrypter is available in two versions: the Standard version allows PDF documents to be secured using a simple password. The user defines the rights which the document’s recipient will have; in addition, a password may also be created for opening the file. The PdfCrypter supports cipher systems including high-level symmetric AES and RC4 encryption with code lengths from 40 to 128 bits.

The Professional version provides maximum security. It offers asymmetric recipient-based encryption with certificate security (RSA). The document is encoded with the recipient’s public key. In order to open the document, the recipient must have a corresponding private key. To view the documentation, all that is required is Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded free of charge.

According to Dirk Carstensen, Managing Director of Software Development at PixelPlanet, “documents which are encoded in such a way are even more secure than a financial statement sent via registered mail with return receipt requested. Indeed, even the recipient’s secretary can read the e-mail but not the attached PDF file.”

With its comprehensive profile management feature, the PdfCrypter facilitates everyday work. This feature also enables security settings to be saved for various applications, e.g. accounts, financial statements and confidential business correspondence. Recurring processes can be automated via directory monitoring, call up parameters (command line) and a COM interface.

The PdfCrypter has now been launched on the market; the Standard Basic version retails at 39 euros incl. VAT, the Professional edition at 79 euros incl. VAT. In addition, network licenses for larger companies can also be purchased.

Those interested will find further information on the PdfCrypter as well as a 30-day demo version at www.pdfcrypter.de
