Two packed days of strategic guidance in tough energy markets

The European CxO Dialog Utilities Strategy on November 17th and 18th of 2008 in the Hotel Palace in Berlin attracted a C-level audience from utilities of 15 European countries sharing their experiences and philosophies regarding the future of the power markets. Starting with an intensive discussion about the strategic outlook led by Prof. Pantelis Capros from the National Technical University of Athens, leading utility groups such as EnBW, Vattenfall, RWE and E.ON presented their strategies in an increasingly competitive environment.

In the final panel discussion summarising the two days, the need for integrated strategic approaches became apparent because too many questions regarding the regulatory future are still in open discussion within the industry and externally with national or pan-European political entities. As Frank Borchardt, Head of Smart Metering of the EFR Europäische Funk-Rundsteuerung GmbH, a company within the E.ON group, put it: „It is already difficult to coordinate an integrated approach of various projects within one corporate utility group. At the moment, the industry does not go into one direction.” The econique event provided the opportunity for the strategic decision makers to learn from each other and to discuss common positions and projects for the future.

The Energy Masters 2009 taking place on March 25th and 26th will be the next energy related event organised by econique.
