SARAH HETHCOAT RELEASES NEW EP TITLED “NOBODY LIKES A BULLY”

Los Angeles, CA (October 14, 2008)— Singer/songwriter Sarah Hethcoat is set to release her new EP “Nobody Likes a Bully” on October 27, 2008. Produced by Dave Cobb (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Chris Cornell), musically, for the entire EP, Cobb looked to the 60s for inspiration. Drums were covered in sheets, the way Ringo Starr used to do to give them that muted “handsy” sound. The sound channels influences from David Bowie to the Bee Gees to Phil Spector and The Ronnettes to Cream to even Lou Reed.

The track “I Got You” is the pivotal song on the EP. There is a very personal story that goes with the song, excising demons so to speak, and musically it’s where the tone and direction of the entire EP came from. The song is the springboard for everything, musically and lyrically on the album. Although it began as a vulnerable and painful ballad, she and Cobb flipped it entirely on its head and turned it into an empowering song where it’s not coming from the point of view of someone who feels like they are a helpless victim, but someone who has triumphed through the adversity and feels the vindication from letting go. Those attitudes and tones carry through to songs like the tongue in cheek “I Hate You,” where she recognizes the nonsense of gamesmanship and then culminates in the ballad “Strong” where she sings, “Cause I know better now, strong girl knows better now.”

Hethcoat’s songs are less about simple stories of relationships than they are about recognition of growth in oneself. They’re all very reflective. They center on learning to love and growing from the trials and tribulations that come with the territory. “A New Day” is another key song on the EP because it’s consistent with the hope and growth that really does resonate throughout the EP. In fact, Hethcoat’s mother was the inspiration for the song.

Highly praised, “You Tease Me” is the only acoustic track that was left as a representation of how Hethcoat has been working her songs for the past year-- stripped down to just her and a guitarist. Over the past 12 months, she has played them all live acoustically and re-worked them. When it came time to produce this song, she wanted to leave it as is—raw and full of flavor.

Now, Hethcoat can be seen all over Southern California showcasing her live music and promoting the new EP available on iTunes. Additionally, TV shows have shown interest in licensing her music and her debut and sophmore EPs have licensed tracks “Show Me” and “Every Time” on MTV’s hit TV show “The Hills” this past year.
