Anti-felt treated wool without chlorine - Dr. Petry Textile

Sustainable consumption is a key trend in the 21st century. Textile auxiliaries that comply with the idea of sustainability are integral part of the product range of Dr. Petry Textile Auxiliaries. The company will present these products during the nutec exhibition (12 – 14 November 2008) at booth 1.2B19. Wool swatches treated with enzymes show that wool can be treated against felt without chlorine. Furthermore, Dr. Friedrich Petry will give a lecture about the topic sustainability and environmental protection in the textile industry during the international symposium of the exhibition on 13 November 2008.

The nutec exhibition (www.nutec.de) is organized by Messe Frankfurt in cooperation with the Environ-mental Protection and Encouragement Agency (EPEA). Sustainable according to EPEA’s idea is a scenario, in which raw materials are used in cycles. The products have to be designed in a way that all the raw materials can be recycled and used for the production of another new product. In this sense, a used chair becomes a new car, the car eventually becomes a plastic bottle, the plastic bottle is turned into a carpet and the carpet is used to produce a chair again. In such a raw material cycle there is no or only little waste.

We distinguish our chemical auxiliaries into two types: Process chemicals and functional chemicals. Process chemicals remain in the bath after the finishing step: The bath can be recycled or used again. Functional chemicals are applied on the fabric and remain there permanently or will be washed out during household laundry. For these chemicals recyclability and biological degradability are important.

Besides recycling and biodegradability of chemical products in the textile finishing Dr. Petry’s products offer more pillars of sustainability: Savings of raw materials and renewable sources: Modern process chemicals save valuable resources like water, energy, and time. Auxiliaries from renewable sources preserve mineral oil-based resources.

Textilchemie Dr. Petry GmbH was founded 1974 by Dr. Joerg Petry. The company produces chemical auxiliaries for the textile industry. The product range includes products for pretreatment, dyeing, finishing, coating and printing. Together with the customers our chemists and textile engineers develop products and processes for special requirements in textile finishing. With Dr. Friedrich Petry as part of the management team the company is under family control already in the second generation. Dr. Rolf Stoehr and Mr Rudi Breier, who joined the circle of shareholders long time ago, are in charge for the technical management.
