Global markets at a glanceUS stocks rose on Thursday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite hitting new highs, helped by gains in the consumer discretionary sector after strong reports from Best Buy and other retailers. The discretionary index was up 1.2 percent, while the S&P 500 retail index was up 1.9 percent, on track for its best day since Nov. 7.The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 78.86 points, or 0.38 percent, to 21,091.28, the S&P 500 had gained 12.42 points, or 0.52 percent, to 2,416.81 and the Nasdaq Composite had added 53.18 points, or 0.86 percent, to 6,216.21.

Gold remained supported today, rising above $1260 per ounce levels amid continued buying on global concerns though the prospect of a near term Fed interest rate hike is expected to weigh on the metal. The commodity eased a bit yesterday amid supportive US equities. However, gains in Gold prices in Asia are indicating good amount of latest demand.

CURRENCY MARKET UPDATES
The Indian rupee gained strength against the dollar in early trades on Thursday, 25 May 2017 on increased selling of the American currency by exporters and banks amid higher opening in the domestic equity markets. Besides, dollar weakness against other currencies after the Federal Reserve dialled down on some of the more hawkish policy expectations supported the rupee. Fresh foreign fund inflows and a higher opening in the domestic equity markets also added to the momentum.
