Press release from: SCP Germany

drupa 2008, DUSSELDORF, June 7, 2008 – Austrian quick-printer and franchise operation Repa Copy has ordered 59 Canon large format imagePROGRAF printers in a deal completed on stand at DRUPA 2008 worth almost Euro 3m.

The contract signing marks the end of an exhaustive period of testing where Canon’s LFPs were stringently benchmarked against some of the leading competition. The result was a thumbs up for Canon’s market leading imagePROGRAF iPF8000S and imagePROGRAF iPF9000S range.

The 44” iPF8000S and the 60” iPF9000S are the most productive printers in their class. The twin print head design and four-picolitre ink droplets produce a 2.400x1.200 dpi resolution for the perfect blend of speed and productivity. The iPF8000S is capable of running at 32.5sqm per hour, while the iPF9000S can output at 37.4sqm per hour on a range of substrates.

The power of the imagePROGRAF series printers will allow Repa Copy to produce large format commercial work.

Repa Copy Chief Executive Officer Helmut Partsch, says: “Before we made a buying decision, we put a range of LFPs through stringent benchmark tests over a five month period. As a result we were happy to place a bulk order with Canon for the imagePROGRAF iPF8000S and iPF9000S, because of their superior quality and consistency. We will run these machines at all of our Repa Copy shops in Europe.”

Repa Copy was also looking to solve the problem of working with multiple workflow solutions. Canon partner SCP Software provided an the ideal opportunity with its reprocontrol.net workflow software; the opportunity to automate the current workflow no matter what the task, including copying, RIPing, scanning and a variety of other functions. The end-to-end workflow solution eliminates operator error and time-consuming training.

Glynn Mansfield, Sales Director, SCP Software says: “Through our partnership with Canon, we were able to offer Repa Copy an end-to-end solution for its printing and software needs. Instead of forcing our customers to adapt to multiple workflow solutions, our software adapts to the customer’s current workflow, making it easier to operate, which in turn has a positive impact on Repa Copy’s bottom line.”

Repa Copy is one of the largest quick printing operations in Austria, responsible for one in three copies produced on the main street in the country. With 36 separate sites across Austria and Germany, it also has 15 franchise partners and is in a period of expansion in Germany and Switzerland.

Anne Sharp, European Marketing Manager, Large Format Solutions, Canon Europe, says: “Our award winning imagePROGRAF range has already gained a number of accolades, but Repa Copy put the machines through a demanding series of tests over a five-month period, run in production style conditions. We are tremendously pleased to have been recognised for producing the highest quality of machine. While industry awards are pleasing, to come through a customer’s benchmark trials in such style is especially pleasing for us all.”
