Award-winning Chelmsford salon, Mimosa Beauty, is growing green

The award-winning Chelmsford beauty salon is expanding and simultaneously spearheading an eco-initiative in the beauty industry.

Multi-award winning salon Mimosa Beauty is moving from its previous home in Broomfield into bigger premises on New London Road, one of the main routes to and from Chelmsford city centre.

The expansion is the latest in a string of successes for the salon, which has won over a dozen awards in the five years since its inception, including the prestigious BABTAC and CIBTAC Small Salon of the Year award in 2014 and 2016.

But founder Jennie Lawson has an even bigger vision: a world where environmental destruction is a thing of the past and shes putting her money where her mouth is with Mimosas eco-innovation initiative.

I believe that our work as beauty therapists doesnt stop at the salon door. Were uniquely positioned to do an enormous amount of good for people individually and for the planet as a whole, Lawson says. Im incredibly proud of everything Mimosa has accomplished so far, and im excited to be able to raise the standards for environmental responsibility in the beauty industry.

Mimosa is leading by example by ensuring that the new premises is completely eco-friendly, from its design to the types of treatments offered.

The whole salon is 100% eco-friendly, says Lawson. We use a landfill-free recycling company, so all of our waste is recycled in some way; our walls have been sound proofed in an environmentally-friendly way and painted with eco-friendly materials; and even our floors are sustainably sourced.

Lawson sees this expansion as a chance to raise awareness by taking a stand on an important issue, something shes done again and again during her time in the beauty industry.

As shes grown Mimosa from local favourite to international-standard salon, shes been recognised for her efforts in raising awareness on hygiene standards in the beauty industry, her educational video campaign on the importance of patch testing, and her work with transgender electrolysis. Now, Lawson is imparting her knowledge to her extended team of qualified beauty therapists to expand her Chelmsford-based business and achieve even greater things for the brand.
