As per International Monetary Fund (IMF) Australia’s real gross domestic product is expected to grow at a CAGR of 1.84% from it’s 2015 level of AUD 1637.01 billion and reach AUD 1991.79 billion by 2022.

Australia, officially the Commonwealth of Australia, is a country comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania, and numerous smaller islands. It is the world's sixth-largest country by total area. Neighbouring countries include Indonesia, East Timor and Papua New Guinea to the north, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia to the north-east, and New Zealand to the south-east.

Australia had estimated population of 24.281 million in the year 2016 and expected to reach 26.425 million by 2022.Australia’s 11.93 million people were employed in 2016 and the unemployment rate was 5.733% of total labour force.

Australia’s real gross domestic product (GDP) was around AUD 1677.47billions in 2016 whereas the nominal GDP was AUD 1692.43billions. This resulted in GDP deflator 100.892. Per capita GDP was estimated at USD51850.27 whereas purchasing power parity (PPP) based per capita GDP was estimated to be at USD 1187.32.

The output gap for Australia in 2016 was in negative at 1.561% of the potential GDP which indicates that Australian economy was underperforming by managing actual output.

In 2016, Australian government’s revenue was AUD 586.179billions whereas the expenditure was AUD 632.074billions. This resulted in Australian government’s net lending / borrowing negative at AUD 45.895 billion in 2016 indicating that enough financial resources were made available by the government to boost economic growth.

The current account balance for Australia was estimated to be negative at AUD 33.199billions for the year 2016 and is expected to decline at a CAGR of 0.37% and reach AUD 59.709 by 2022. This negative current accounts deficit indicates that Australia’s net borrowing will increase in future.
