According to American Lung Association, acute respiratory distress syndrome is a rapidly progressive disease occurring in critically ill patients. The main complication in acute respiratory distress syndrome is the leakage of fluid into the lungs that leads to difficulty in breathing. However, in some people, these inflammatory molecules are responsible for the leakage of fluid from the small blood vessels into lungs. Fluid leaves these small vessels and goes into the alveoli. The alveoli filled with this fluid, makes obstruction difficult for oxygen to get into the bloodstream.
