LIGHTS, CAMERA, A(DDI)CTION! Europe’s Biggest Addiction Event Hosts Film Festival

A conference on addiction and associated disorders, set to become the most comprehensive international mental health and addiction event of its kind, has today announced that it has added a film festival to its already extensive program. The International Conference on Addiction and Associated Disorders (www.icaadevents.com) a three-day event set to be held in London on May 1st-3rd 2017, incorporates over sixty presentations by world-renowned experts on the subjects of addiction, behavioural health, and mental and emotional health and wellbeing, alongside talks and interactive workshops around the same themes.

The iCAAD Street & Reel Recovery Film Festival includes offerings from both Recovery Street Film Festival (http://www.recoverystreetfilmfestival.co.uk) and REEL Recovery Film Festival (http://reelrecoveryfilmfestival.org), and is hosted in conjunction with Action on Addiction (http://www.actiononaddiction.org.uk), a national charity that helps people affected by addiction. The charity’s patron is the Duchess of Cambridge, who attended 2016’s Recovery Street Film Festival. The Recovery Street Film Festival focuses on filmmakers who are either in recovery or have experienced recovery through a close friend or relative.

REEL Recovery Film Festival showcases filmmakers who make honest films about addiction, alcoholism, treatment and recovery, and includes films from both first-time filmmakers and industry veterans.

The iCAAD Street & Reel Film Festival line-up includes films such as the Recovery Street Film Festival 2016 winner, Hope Inside, a 3-minute short based in HMP Wymott that celebrates recovery; Jimmy’s Story, a remarkable story of one man’s struggle with addiction; and Conversations with Lucifer, the 2011 Shevaun Kasti short about a recovering addict heading for relapse.

Following the film festival; which is to be held on Monday 1st May at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington High Street, London, 7.30pm as part of iCAAD; there will be a Q&A with a panel of experts from the film and documentary industry. Admission is free, with a voluntary donation to Action on Addiction.
