Automotive signaling wire is an assembly of wires and cables, which transmit electric power and signals. In an automotive signaling wire system, there are five types of electrical circuits, namely, charging circuit, starting circuit, ignition circuit, lighting circuit, and accessory circuit within which the transmission of power takes place.The wires have some level of resistance, capacitance, and inductance, which varies and depends on the physical composition of the wire. Resistance in a wire leads to a drop in voltage across the wire.

The amount of drop in voltage is directly proportional to the current passing through the wire. Higher the current greater will be the drop in the voltage. Capacitance refers to the transfer of energy within the wires and the cables at varying frequencies.
The inductance of a wire increases its resistance due to the presence of a magnetic field which is created by a conductor inside the wire signaling system. The automotive wire signaling system includes the use of fine copper strands which has lower resistance and can transfer higher amount of current.
The amount of heat dissipated by a wire is determined by the way it is bundled along with other wires. Usually, if a wire is bundled with fifty or more number of other wires it will comparatively carry lesser amount of current.
Heat cables are an example of signaling wire which is high temperature resistant found in the interior of the engine compartment. These signaling wires connect to various signaling devices inside a car, such as, indicators, headlights, brake lights, and car horns among others.
The automotive signaling wire system is equipped with insulation materials that provide high durability and reliability under working conditions. Materials such as thermoplastics, thermoplastic elastomers, and cross-linked plastics among others are widely used in the wiring system due to their high durability and reliability features. Therefore a decrease in the price of these materials will lead to a growth of the automotive signaling wire market.
The restraining factors present in this market are related to some primary issues with the use of signaling wires. The wires are often not perfect conductors and even a small drop in voltage supply can led to a disruption of connection of the signaling system with the signaling devices and lead to an overall dysfunction of the vehicle.

By wire type the market has been segmented into PVC and cross-linked polyethylene. Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) is the most widely produced synthetic plastic polymer which are very good conductors of heat. But high toxicity of PVCs are forcing automakers to stop their use and shift to cross-linked polyethylene wires.
Cross-linked polyethylene are highly resistant towards high voltage and heat and they are particularly useful for high voltage cable wires and extra-high voltage cable applications.
