The Decorum Group offers rich curriculum of etiquette training for children ages 6 to 19.

JONESBORO, G.A. August 7, 2008, - The Decorum Group announced the launch its of etiquette training programs designed to provide children with the ability to develop stronger self-esteem, enjoy better relationships and communication, discover how to work well with a team, and conduct themselves appropriately in public, educational and professional settings. The future benefits from this training are that children will display confidence, improve their academic achievement levels and lay a firm foundation to attain success in their futures because this type of training helps to remove barriers that often keep our children from functioning at a high level.

Children who are not taught proper etiquette display behavior that disrupts their learning and development at home, in school and other social settings. The Decorum Group address these attitudes and behaviors by offering six age appropriate courses for children: The Polite Child (girls and boys ages 6-8), The Poised Youth (girls and boys ages 9-11), The Gracious Ladies and The Cordial Gents (ages 12-15), and The Sophisticated Ladies and Men (ages 16-19). Children are taught a variety of subjects including common courtesy, social conduct, sharing, basic table manners, good sportsmanship, conflict resolution, telephone etiquette, and interview techniques to name a few.

The founder of The Decorum Group, Charly McCracken, designed these courses to provide a competitive edge for children. “Children who have been taught etiquette have the advantage as they strive to attain success,” says Ms. McCracken. She found that according to research conducted by SocialSmartsTM, the leading educational program dedicated to developing excellent social skills in children of all ages, that in schools where one of their programs for social skills was implemented, reading test scores increased as much as 20 points per year. This improvement is hardly surprising since it is common knowledge that the disruptions caused by discipline concerns affects the achievement of all the children in the classroom and not just the children directly associated with the behavior causing the distractions. Moreover, Ms. McCracken feels that in such a competitive society, good manners open doors and provides opportunities that may not otherwise be realized by those who do not practice them. According to a recent study conducted by Harvard University, Stanford Research Institute and the Carnegie Mellon Foundation, 85% of our children’s future success depends on social skills.

Ms. McCracken stands by her belief that etiquette training fosters the development of self-esteem, in that it equips children to behave in an acceptable manner and make good choices when dealing with conflict. When children know that they are accepted and that their decisions are supported, they experience self-respect. This self-respect will continue to lead their choices and actions well into their futures. Ms. McCracken passionately feels that, “as parents and community leaders, it is our responsibility to invest in the lives of our children who are the face of tomorrow. What an excellent return on our investment we will receive in the way of strong leaders and professionals.”

The Decorum Group will be conducting classes in Clayton County beginning September 2008.
