Structural Focus President David Cocke Honored as a Virginia Tech Distinguished Alumnus
Los Angeles-area, CA, April 5, 2017 -- David Cocke has been honored as a Virginia Tech Distinguished Alumnus by the Charles E. via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He was inducted into the CEE Academy of Distinguished Alumni at a celebration on March 31, 2007.“The Academy of Distinguished Alumni recognizes alumni of the Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering for their accomplishments and commitment to the profession of engineering and other careers; and to the communities, the states, and the nation in which we live.”
David Cocke, class of 1980, was recognized for sustained and meritorious achievement and accomplishments for Service to his Profession – “These alumni will have made advances to the technology or the fundamental principles of their chosen career, whether as an engineer, scientist, educator, or other professional. They will be evaluated by criteria such as registrations in their discipline, participation in professional and technical organizations, contributions to the base of knowledge in their area of practice, and acknowledgment by their peers through citations and other recognition.”
“It was a thrill to join such an honored group that has accomplished so much in the engineering world over the years,” expressed Mr. Cocke. “It is especially gratifying because I don’t get the chance to interact as much as I would like with my alma mater from so far away in California.”
In 2001, Mr. Cocke founded the structural engineering firm, Structural Focus, and has served as President since that time. Structural Focus has designed many significant projects in Southern California, including the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, the Wilshire Boulevard Temple, and the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre.
