Safe Driving Starts with the Instructor

Survey highlights the motivating faces we’d like to see in the driving instructor’s seat

A good driving instructor can make a great driver, according to car hire price comparator Carrentals, which has been asking its customers just who they would choose as their preferred driving instructor as part of the company’s focus on road safety.

With figures from the Department of Transport showing that over 70 people are injured every day on Britain’s roads, the Carrentals survey questioned nearly 1,000 people on who they thought would make a good instructor, with the aim to highlight the importance of driving instruction to help improve road safety.

George Clooney came out on top as the ideal driving instructor for women, while for men their perfect instructor would be Channel 5 newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky.

Younger male drivers (17 – 24 years old) would opt for Sharon Osborne, while the majority of 25 – 44 year old men voted Kylie Minogue as their preferred instructor, and Jo Brand beat Jordan across all age groups.

Women up to the age of 55 voted George Clooney as their top driving instructor, while the 55+ age group opted for the cool style of Sir Trevor MacDonald, with other favourites including Sir Richard Branson, Shane Richie and Peter Kay.

Carrentals managing director Gareth Robinson commented: “A good driving instructor can make all the difference to a driver’s ability. People always say that they never drive as well as they did on the day of their driving test, but drivers who have been taught well have a strong basic knowledge that they can build on.

“The survey was a light hearted way of encouraging people to think about their driving instructor - having a good teacher that you listen to and learn from is a key part of developing as a safe driver.”
