Micro-Mobility Market

Micro-Mobility Market

The micro-mobility market is entering a more mature phase, in which scaled operators are raising capital and consolidating while smaller and consumer-focused brands face tariff, safety, and balance-sheet pressure. On July 1, 2026, Lime began trading on Nasdaq under the ticker LIME after pricing its IPO at USD 25 per share and raising about USD 174 million in gross proceeds, valuing the company at roughly USD 1.6 billion. Lime reported 2025 revenue of USD 886.7 million, and in August 2026 said it had used IPO proceeds to repay all of its outstanding long-term debt. Two days after listing, Lime acquired Neuron Mobility's Canadian business, taking over operations in 12 Canadian cities. The sector is also showing the other side of the cycle: Rad Power Bikes was sold out of Chapter 11 for USD 13.2 million, and Germany's Riese & Müller announced it would exit the U.S. market in July 2026.

Shared-mobility operators, e-bike and e-scooter manufacturers, and battery and charging providers are positioned to benefit as cities add last-mile connections to public transport and consumers shift to compact electric vehicles. Opportunities lie in fleet profitability, connected and IoT-enabled vehicles, battery-swapping and charging infrastructure, and integration with ride-hailing and transit apps. Companies that rely on single-market exposure, imported components, or unresolved battery-safety issues may face pressure from tariffs, municipal fleet caps, and rising compliance costs.

According to DataM Intelligence, the global micro-mobility market was valued at USD 4.53 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 11.33 billion by 2033, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.1% during 2026-2033.

Asia-Pacific is both the largest and fastest-growing regional market, supported by large two-wheeler manufacturing bases in China, India, and Southeast Asia and strong urban demand. North America and Europe benefit from supportive micro-mobility policies, strong technology ecosystems, and expanding shared-fleet programs. Electric scooters lead the type segment, with electric bicycles also widely used for commuting. Battery range, charging access, and fleet operating costs remain the main constraints, which is why battery swapping, IoT-based fleet management, and smart-city integration are gaining attention.

United States: Recent Industry Developments

✅ August 2026: Lime reported Q2 2026 results on August 4, its first as a public company. It said IPO proceeds had been used to repay all outstanding long-term debt, and that net income of USD 295 million was lifted by one-time IPO-related items. Lime describes itself as the largest global shared micromobility business, with about 230 cities across 29 countries and roughly 19 million riders in 2025.

✅ July 2026: Lime listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market on July 1 under the ticker LIME, pricing its IPO at USD 25 per share. Uber was expected to hold about 22% of Lime's shares after the offering, and the listing is among the sector's few successful public debuts since the post-pandemic shakeout.

✅ March 2026: Life Electric Vehicles Holdings completed a court-approved acquisition of the Rad Power Bikes brand, intellectual property, inventory, and certain operating assets for about USD 13.2 million in cash. Rad Power Bikes had filed for Chapter 11 protection in December 2025. Life EV plans to continue U.S. retail operations under the Rad brand and shift production to the United States.

Europe: Recent Industry Developments

✅ April 2026: Riese & Müller, the German premium e-bike and cargo bike maker, announced it would stop business activities in the United States as of July 31, 2026 and concentrate on European core markets. The company said it would support U.S. dealers through the transition and continue to supply spare parts to existing customers.

✅ Early 2026: Dott reported its first profitable year on an adjusted basis for 2025, with revenue of EUR 173 million and adjusted EBITDA of EUR 7 million, following cost reductions after its merger with TIER. Backed by EUR 85 million in new funding, the operator is refreshing its fleet with 45,000 new vehicles in 2026.

Japan: Recent Industry Developments

✅ November 2025: Luup, Japan's shared micromobility operator, raised JPY 4.4 billion through a mix of equity and a syndicated green loan arranged by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, with Mizuho Bank as co-arranger. The company reported more than 15,500 ports and over 5 million app downloads, and said it would use the funds to expand ports and strengthen safety measures in cooperation with police and local governments.

Key Mergers and Acquisitions

✅ Lime Technology Canada announced on July 3, 2026 that it had acquired Neuron Mobility Canada Ltd. and would take over Neuron's e-scooter and e-bike operations in 12 Canadian cities and regions, including Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, Waterloo, and Ottawa. Lime will assume operations city by city and will operate under its own brand. Financial terms were not disclosed.

✅ Life Electric Vehicles Holdings completed its asset acquisition of Rad Power Bikes on March 5, 2026, for about USD 13.3 million in cash (about USD 14.9 million including liabilities assumed). The deal followed an auction in which five companies participated. It is a bankruptcy asset purchase rather than an acquisition of the company as a going concern.
