Amplus Media Reports: Morocco Makes History with Appointment of First Female Prime Minister Fatima-Zahra Mansouri

Amplus Media published an in-depth analysis of Morocco's historic political milestone the appointment of Fatima-Zahra Mansouri as the country's first female Prime Minister, crowning six decades of Moroccan women's rise to positions of power and decision-making.
Rabat, Morocco - October 14, 2026 - Amplus Media, an independent Moroccan digital media platform specializing in political analysis and fact-checked journalism, has published a comprehensive analysis of one of Morocco's most significant political milestones in its modern history: the appointment of Fatima-Zahra Mansouri as the country's first female Prime Minister.

On September 29, 2026, King Mohammed VI appointed Fatima-Zahra Mansouri, coordinator of the collective leadership of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), as Prime Minister of Morocco - the first woman in the country's history to hold this position. The appointment marks the culmination of more than six decades of Moroccan women's gradual rise to positions of power and decision-making across the judiciary, diplomacy, parliament, government, and constitutional institutions.

According to Amplus Media's analysis, Morocco's journey toward women's political leadership began as early as 1961, when the first female judge was appointed, followed by the first female ambassador in 1965, the first two female members of parliament in 1993, and the first four women to enter the government in 1997. Nearly three decades later, this progression has reached its highest point with a woman leading the government itself.

Fatima-Zahra Mansouri brings a rich political career to her new role. She was first elected President of the Marrakech City Council in 2009, returned to lead the city again following the 2021 elections, served simultaneously as Minister of Territorial Planning, Urban Development, Housing and City Policy, and has coordinated the collective leadership of the PAM party since 2024.

Amplus Media's analysis places this historic appointment within its full political and constitutional context, noting that the significance of Mansouri's appointment goes beyond being the "first woman" to reach the position - it represents a qualitative shift in the role of women at the very top of Morocco's executive power structure, as the Prime Minister under Morocco's constitution is responsible for exercising executive authority, implementing the government's program, ensuring the application of laws, and overseeing public administration.
