BPX Highlights SAP Analytics Cloud Chart-Level Predictive Forecasting as Enterprises Seek Faster Forward-Looking Decisions
Business Process Xperts ( https://businessprocessxperts.com/ ), the Expert Service Division of Mind-A-Mend Consultancy Group, today highlighted SAP Analytics Cloud - Run Forecasts in Time Series or Line Charts as Feature #018 in its ongoing AI Readiness to AI Action Series, drawing attention to a practical form of predictive AI that can be used directly inside existing analytical stories.
SAP's current Q3 2026 Feature Scope Description lists Run Forecasts in Time Series or Line Charts among SAP Analytics Cloud's supported AI capabilities and describes it as automatically predicting future values within story charts.
SAP's latest Help documentation, version 2026.17, confirms that users can create predictive forecasts from chart data using a measure and date dimension.
Predictive analytics moves closer to everyday analysis
Enterprise forecasting has traditionally been associated with specialist planning tools, statistical environments or data-science teams.
Chart-level forecasting changes the entry point.
An analyst already reviewing a sales, cost, demand or operational trend can add a predictive forecast without leaving the visualization.
SAP currently provides three primary forecasting approaches within the experience: Automatic, Exponential Smoothing and Linear Regression.
Automatic forecasting uses the available chart data to generate predicted future values.
Exponential smoothing can account for trend and seasonal behavior.
Linear regression applies a regression algorithm to historical time-series data to predict future values.
The resulting visualization can include predicted values together with upper and lower confidence limits.
The business opportunity is earlier intervention
BPX sees the feature as particularly relevant where executives repeatedly inspect historical trends and manually form expectations about the future.
Potential applications include:
Revenue trajectory.
Product demand.
Recurring cost trends.
Operational workloads.
Capacity-related measures.
The forecast itself, however, should not be treated as a business commitment.
Instead, it can become an early signal prompting investigation.
A forecast showing deteriorating sales may trigger pipeline analysis.
A rising cost forecast may trigger process investigation.
A demand increase may prompt inventory or capacity planning.
The value emerges when the organization can respond before the predicted outcome occurs.
Forecast quality and architecture require attention
SAP enables users to review forecast quality, examine how the predictive model fits historical periods and display confidence intervals.
For applicable remote models from SAP HANA, SAP BW, SAP Universe and SAP S/4HANA ( https://businessprocessxperts.com/sap-s-4hana-transformations-with-sap-signavio/ ), administrators must enable Time Series Forecast and Smart Grouping on Live Data Models.
SAP also states that data is processed on SAP servers ( https://businessprocessxperts.com/sap-signavio/ ) in this scenario and that remote models cannot be used to run forecasts on line charts.
BPX recommends including these architecture and governance considerations in AI-readiness reviews rather than treating forecasting purely as a visualization feature.
From predictive signal to process action
The strongest opportunity may come from connecting forecasting with process intelligence.
If SAP Analytics Cloud predicts deterioration in an operational KPI, SAP Signavio ( https://businessprocessxperts.com/sap-signavio/ ) can help investigate which process variants, delays, rework patterns or exceptions are contributing to the historical trend.
SAP LeanIX ( https://businessprocessxperts.com/leanix-consulting-services/ ) can provide architecture visibility around applications supporting the affected process, while SAP BTP may support integrations or extensions needed to operationalize a response.
According to Nikhil Agarwal, COO, Mind-A-Mend Consultancy Group:
"Predictive AI becomes operationally meaningful when it creates time to act. If a forecast identifies a future risk but the enterprise has no process for investigating and responding to that signal, prediction remains analytics. The real transformation begins when the forecast changes what the organization does next."
